Forecast for 07-02-09
Energy wrapping around the Great Lakes low developed a weak secondary area of low pressure over the mid-Atlantic on Wednesday. The new low will slowly track northward into New England over the next 24-48 hours. With the low approaching, plan on a cloudy day today with a better chance for some scattered showers especially later in the afternoon and evening followed by steadier shower activity tonight and for Friday. Temperatures for today and Friday will be in the mid-60s to low 70s.
The holiday weekend forecast shows some improvement mainly for Sunday. The Great Lakes low that we've been dealing with over the past several days will finally cross through the region over the weekend. While the low moves through, we'll continue to see a good chance for scattered showers and possibly a few thunderstorms for the 4th of July. It looks like the shower activity will wind down in time to have some decent conditions for any fireworks shows that evening. The Great Lakes low and its associated upper level energy will slide east of the area Sunday and with a weak ridge of high pressure building in, we'll see varying amounts of clouds and sunshine. There will still be a slight chance for some scattered showers on Sunday but right now it looks like most areas will stay dry. Expect high temperatures over the holiday weekend to range from the mid-60s to low 70s Saturday and mainly in the low 70s Sunday.
Today: patchy fog early then mostly cloudy. Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms possible. Highs between 66°-73°. East/southeast wind 5-10 MPH.
Tonight: mostly cloudy with showers likely. Areas of fog. Lows near 60°. Southeast wind 5-10 MPH.
Friday: mostly cloudy with scattered showers and thunderstorms likely. Highs between 66°-71°. Southeast wind 5-10 MPH becoming south.
Saturday: mostly cloudy with scattered showers and possibly a few thunderstorms. A few breaks of sun possible. Highs in the mid-60s to low 70s.
Sunday: mostly cloudy during the morning with breaks of sun developing late morning into the afternoon. Slight chance of a few showers. Highs in the upper 60s to mid-70s.
Monday: morning clouds then becoming partly sunny. Highs in the low to mid-70s.
