Forecast for 07-01-09
Things here in the TV 5 Forecast Center remain status quo. The forecast for the next few days has not changed much. The stubborn low pressure system over the eastern Great Lakes will remain nearly stationary today then slowly drift eastward tomorrow and Friday, finally crossing through New England over the upcoming holiday weekend. Today's forecast will be very similar to Tuesday. We'll start with some fog and low clouds early this morning then we'll see some breaks of sun developing later this morning into the afternoon. A few showers will be possible today as well but they should be widely scattered so some places may see a few showers while other areas remain dry. We'll see another cloudy and foggy night tonight. Once again the fog tonight could be dense in spots so keep that in mind if you have travel plans for the overnight hours or early Thursday. Energy wrapping around the Great Lakes low will help develop a weak secondary area of low pressure over the mid-Atlantic later today. That new low will then travel northward towards southern New England Thursday. With the low approaching, plan on a cloudy day Thursday with scattered showers especially later in the afternoon and evening followed by steadier shower activity for Friday.
The forecast for the upcoming holiday weekend still looks unsettled. The Great Lakes low will finally cross through the region over the weekend. The low will drag a weak cold front through the area Saturday and Saturday night giving us another chance for a few scattered showers and possibly a few thunderstorms. Otherwise we'll see clouds mixed with a little sun at times Saturday. It looks like any showers and thunderstorms Saturday will wind down in time to give us some decent conditions for the fireworks shows Saturday night. The Great Lakes low and its associated upper level energy will slide east of the area Sunday and with a weak ridge of high pressure building in, we'll see varying amounts of clouds and sunshine. There will still be a chance for some scattered showers on Sunday but right now the chances look minimal. Expect high temperatures over the holiday weekend to range from the low to mid-70s.
Today: areas of fog this morning then mostly cloudy with breaks of sun mixed in at times. Scattered showers possible. Muggy. Highs between 68°-75°. Southeast wind 5-10 MPH.
Tonight: mostly cloudy with a slight chance of a few showers. Areas of fog, some it will be dense. Lows between 54°-60°. Light southeast wind.
Thursday: morning fog then mostly cloudy. Scattered showers, most numerous later in the day. Highs between 66°-76°. Southeast wind 5-10 MPH.
Friday: mostly cloudy with showers likely. Highs in the mid-60s to low 70s.
Saturday: mostly cloudy with some breaks of sun mixed in. Scattered showers. Highs in the low to mid- 70s.
Sunday: variably cloudy with scattered showers possible. Highs in the upper 60s to mid-70s.
