Forecast for 06-29-09

Post by Outspoken on Mon Jun 29, 2009 6:15 am

Our gray and damp weather continues over the next several days. An area of low pressure at the surface and in the upper levels of the atmosphere will remain spinning over the Great Lakes region through Thursday then slowly start to drift eastward as we enter our upcoming holiday weekend. Weak disturbances wrapping around the Great Lakes low will keep us under the gun for some scattered showers every day this week. Otherwise a moist, southeast flow off the ocean will reinforce the low level moisture, and keep things mainly cloudy for the next few days with temperatures running a bit below normal. Tuesday and Wednesday will be the days that have the best chance for some breaks of sunshine. However, any sunshine we see will only help generate more shower activity especially during the afternoon hours both days. An area of low pressure developing over the mid-Atlantic region Wednesday will head northward towards New England, possibly bringing us some steadier rain for Thursday.

Looking ahead to our holiday weekend, cloudy skies and a few scattered showers will continue Friday as low pressure moves off to our north. A weak cold front is forecast to come through the state Saturday giving us another chance for some showers and possible a few thunderstorms mainly during the afternoon. At this point it looks like the showers and thunderstorms will wind down in time to give us some decent weather for fireworks shows Saturday night. Sunday looks like the best day of the holiday weekend. A ridge of high pressure will build in and bring us a mix of sun and clouds Sunday. Expect high temperatures over the holiday weekend to range from the low to mid-70s.

Today: steady rain tapering to scattered showers from south to north. Highs between 63°-68°. Southeast wind 5-10 MPH.

Tonight: mostly cloudy with scattered showers. Areas of fog. Lows between 54°-59°. Southeast wind 5-10 MPH.

Tuesday: mostly cloudy with some breaks of sun mixed in. Scattered showers possible mainly during the afternoon. Highs ranging from 66°-73°. Southeast wind 5-10 MPH.

Wednesday: morning fog. Some sunny breaks possible early then mostly cloudy with showers developing during the afternoon. Highs in the upper 60s to mid-70s.

Thursday: showers likely. Highs in the mid-60s to low 70s.

Friday: mostly cloudy with scattered showers mainly during the afternoon. Highs in the low to mid-70s.
