Forecast 06-30-09
Not much change in the forecast for the next few days. An area of low pressure at the surface and in the upper levels of the atmosphere remains spinning over the Great Lakes region this morning and will be nearly stationary today and tomorrow before slowly working its way eastward later in the weekend and into the start of the weekend. Weak disturbances wrapping around the Great Lakes low will keep us under the gun for some scattered showers every day this week. Otherwise a moist, southeast flow off the ocean will reinforce the low level moisture, and keep things mainly cloudy for the next few days with temperatures running a bit below normal. Tuesday and Wednesday will be the days that have the best chance for some breaks of sunshine. However, any sunshine we see will only help generate more shower activity especially during the afternoon hours both days. With a lot of low level moisture in place, fog will be developing at night over the next several nights. Some of the fog will be dense in spots with visibilities varying from one place to the next so take it slow on the roads at night and during the early morning in case you encounter reduced visibilities during your drive. An area of low pressure developing over the mid-Atlantic region Wednesday will head northward towards New England, possibly bringing us more numerous showers for Thursday and Friday.
Looking ahead to our holiday weekend, a weak cold front is forecast to come through the state Saturday giving us another chance for some showers and possible a few thunderstorms mainly during the afternoon. With a little bit of luck, the showers and thunderstorms will wind down in time to give us some decent weather for the fireworks shows Saturday night. Sunday looks like the best day of the holiday weekend. A weak ridge of high pressure will build in and bring us a mix of sun and clouds Sunday. Expect high temperatures over the holiday weekend to range from the low to mid-70s.
Today: areas of fog this morning then mostly cloudy with breaks of sun mixed in at times. Scattered showers and possibly a few thunderstorms especially this afternoon. Muggy. Highs between 69°-75°. East/southeast wind 5-10 MPH becoming southeast.
Tonight: mostly cloudy with a few showers. Areas of fog, some it will be dense. Lows between 54°-59°. Light southeast wind.
Wednesday: areas of fog early then mostly cloudy with some breaks of sun. Scattered showers and possibly a few thunderstorms especially during the afternoon. Highs between 67°-75°. Southeast wind 5-10 MPH.
Thursday and Friday: mostly cloudy with showers likely. Highs in the mid-60s to low 70s.
Saturday: mostly cloudy with some breaks of sun possible. Scattered showers and thunderstorms especially during the afternoon. Highs in the low to mid-70s.
