WATERVILLE -- Three moose lumbered across lawns and driveways off Upper Main Street early Wednesday, sending cats scurrying for cover and drawing people from their houses to gape.

The moose, drooling and puffing, stood on Johnson Heights as a cat raced across the road to find shelter under a porch. A black feline without a tail peered out of a living room window, its yellow eyes frozen on the moose.

CLINTON -- The moose that &quot;fell from the sky&quot; Tuesday, in an observer's words, landed on its head and quickly died.

The yearling bull nearly took a man with him after it fell from the Interstate 95 overpass onto Hinckley Road.

Shirley Bailey, assistant town clerk, got the frantic call shortly after 8 a.m. Tuesday. The caller was driving along the road when he saw the moose fall.

This is the kind of wild turkey you duck, rather than sip.

On numerous occasions this month, low-flying wild turkeys have struck motorists in Maine -- one smashing a truck windshield, sending glass flying; the other knocking a man off his motorcycle, causing severe injuries.

On March 15, Jeffrey Phillips of Hartford was knocked off his Kawasaki by one of the big birds, which are especially ...</description>

The Associated Press

PORTLAND, Maine — The expectant parents got to a Portland hospital in time for their son to be delivered. They just didn’t make it inside.

Jessie Plourde went into labor early Monday morning and decided it was time to get to Mercy Fore River hospital’s new birthing center. But the baby had other plans, and by the time the family pulled their car up to the front entrance, he was ready to be born.
